Seahawks Fall 13-7 At Fairfield

March 10, 2007

Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Wagner's second-half push came up just short as the Seahawks were denied in their bid for a second-straight win 13-7 at Fairfield earlier today. With the loss the Green & White fall to 1-3 while the Stags improve to 2-3.

Fairfield was in control all day and set the tone early by tallying the first goal of the day. The Seahawks answered when sophomore Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA / Jenkintown) connected on an unassisted goal at the 24:55 mark of the first. The Stags then scored four-straight goals in a span of just over five minutes to go up by an insurmountable margin of 5-1 with 17:09 to go in the first. As they have done all season, the Seahawks were not done battling. Freshmen Janine Bright (Commack, NY / Commack) and Teri Noll (Jordan, NY / Jordan-Elbridge Ctlr.) each connected on goals to cut it to 5-3. But that would be the story of the day as Wagner would cut the deficit to two goals on three more occasions only to see Fairfield answer each time.

After a Stag goal put them up three, sophomore Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored an unassisted goal before Fairfield tallied two more goals to go up 8-4 at intermission.

The Seahawks came out with a vengeance in the second half as Noll and Richmond each scored goals to cut it to 8-6 with 23:55 to go. Fairfield would then push their lead back out to three before Richmond closed out the Seahawk-scoring with her third goal of the game off a pretty pass from freshman Lindsay Hashmall (Wantagh, NY / Wantagh) at the 17:35 mark. The Stags then rallied yet again with four-straight goals to win 13-7.

Also standing out for the Green & White was Noll, who had two goals.

The game was evenly played as the Seahawks won the ground-ball battle 31-30 but lose draw controls (12-10) and were outshot 37-29.

Wagner will now rest for a week before playing at Drexel next Sunday, March 18 at 1 pm.
