Feb. 4, 2007

Stats

San Diego, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team fell to the 16th ranked Tritons of the University of California-San Diego earlier this afternoon in San Diego, CA by a count of 11-5. With the loss Wagner falls to 1-1 on the season with two more contests tomorrow before they return back to the East Coast.

Wagner sparred with the nationally ranked Tritons for the majority of the contest, down just 2-0 after the first quarter. Goals by sophomore Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) and junior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) tallied in the second left the Seahawks trailing just 4-2 at half.

Wagner would again close within two scores in the third quarter when Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) scored on feed from Yvette Viramontes (Montebello, CA/Montebello) to bring the score to 5-3 with 4:50 to go in the third. Wagner would then fall down by four goals before junior Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) notched her first score of the season to make things 7-4.

However from there things when somewhat south as the host Tritons would outscore Wagner the rest of the way 5-1. Senior Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) tacked on a late goal for the Seahawks. Once again Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) went the entire way in the cage with a stellar outing, impounding 12 UCSD shots.

Wagner is next in action tomorrow when they travel to the University of the Redlands for two games against the home team Redlands as well as Whittier College.
