Box Score
Moon Township, PA - The Wagner College men's lacrosse squad fell in a tough loss to Robert Morris this afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium by a score of 15-10 despite three goals from junior attack Andrew Daly (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt). They now fall to a record of 0-2-0, 0-0-0 MAAC on the early season.
The Seahawks got off to a promising start after four unassisted first quarter goals by sophomore attacks Evan Shull (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi), junior Daly and freshman attack Greg Trenti (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) - which was the first of his collegiate career.
The Colonials wouldn't be denied, however, as they surged back in the second quarter netting four goals while holding Wagner to a lone score by Daly - his second on the afternoon.
Robert Morris would take a slim 6-5 halftime lead.
The Seahawks jumped out from the intermission and tied the game with 13:01 remaining in the third quarter on a goal by senior midfielder Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD/Serverna Park) on an assist by sophomore Shull.
Unfortunately, this would be as close as the Seahawks would get to the Colonials the rest of the game. The host team put the game away by going on a torrid 6-2 run from 3:08 left in the third quarter until the end of the game.
Colonial freshman Patrick Smith proved a thorn in Wagner's side during this game-defining run as he would notch four of the six goals to put the Seahawks away for good.
Wagner's Policicchio - last year's leading goal scorer for the Seahawks - scored the final goal of the game with a minute left but it was too little too late as the Colonials held on, 15-10.
The Seahawks now look forward to this Saturday when they travel up I-95 to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University in a non-conference match-up at 1 p.m.
