Results
Landover, MD -- Wagner College finished in fourth place at the NEC Swimming Championships. The Seahawks tallied 491 points well distancing themselves from fifth place St. Francis (PA). Gardner-Webb made it four straight championships as they tallied a resounding 735 points.
The Seahawks got it started in the 1650 freestyle when sophomore Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) took second place at 17:09.51, while teammate Colleen Bowman (Hauppuage, NY/Hauppauge) was good for fifth place at 17:30.59. After that it was the 200 yard backstroke which saw Dana Helyer (Milford, CT/Amity) picking up sixth place at 2:11.40 while Heather Roman-Green (Woodstock, NY/Kingston) tallied 11th place at 2:14.65.
After that it was the 100 yard freestyle with Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) taking ninth place at 53.93 and Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School) grabbing 16th at 55.29. The 200 yard breaststroke provided three scorers for Wagner started by Kate Wilson (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) picking up seventh place at 2:26.85, followed by Julie Gardner (Concord, CA/Concord) in ninth at 2:29.63, and Nicole Paduano (North Haven, CT/North Haven) in 11th at 2:31.96.
Next on the schedule was the 200 yard butterfly with another trio of scorers for the Seahawks. Jess Radka (Reading, PA/Holy Name) took second place with a time of 2:06.19. She was followed by Tomlinson in seventh place at 2:11.25 while freshman Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) grabbed eighth at 2:15.04.
The competition for Wagner was rounded out on the day with the 400 yard freestyle relay. In that event McDonald, Radka, Roser, and Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC/Northwest) grabbed fourth place with a time of 3:36.82.
This meet concluded team competition for the Seahawks however for some individuals the Speedo Championship Series and Swimming National Championships remain on the horizon in the coming months.
