Providence, RI -- The Wagner College women's water polo team lost in the nightcap of two games played at Brown University earlier today falling to the home team and 20th ranked Bears by a count of 10-8. Despite the efforts of senior goalie Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) who recorded seven steals and discarded 17 Bear shots, the loss moves Wagner to 4-2 on the season.

The Seahawks were slow out of the gates as Brown struck first with a goal in the opening minutes to post a 1-0 lead. However, Wagner answered in a major way ripping off three straight goals to post a 3-1 lead. The Green & White received scores from Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley), Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS), and Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City). Maichrowicz added her second goal of the game towards the end of the first period to give Wagner a 4-2 lead headed to the second period.

Wagner's offense then went into the tank, and Brown put on a scoring display racking up five unanswered goals to close the first half and open the second. When the smoke cleared, Wagner was down 7-4 with 4:34 remaining in the third period. Undaunted, the Seahawks battled back putting up a 3-0 run of their own with scores by Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon), Stacey Travous, and Hoelck.

Brown would not go away on this day as they rose to the challenge posted by Wagner and roared back with three straight goals to put the Green & White in the hole 10-7 with just 2:25 remaining in the game. Wagner tried to rally after the Brown goalie was ejected as junior Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) found the back of the net, cutting the deficit to two at 10-8, but that was all for the Wagner offense on this day.

Wagner has next weekend off before returning to action at the Bucknell Invitational on February 24 and February 25 in Lewisburg, PA.
