Oct. 19, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team dropped a Northeast Conference game this afternoon, succumbing to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University (1-9-4, 1-1-3 NEC) by a 2-0 score at a rain-soaked, foggy Wagner College Stadium. The Seahawks move to a record of (3-9-1, 1-3-0 NEC) on the year.

With both teams deadlocked through the first half it wasn't until the 69th minute that the game took a turn. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good one for the home Seahawks.

With the Pioneers in Wagner territory along the ride side of the box Sacred Heart defender Allison Rojas squibbed a kick that was mishandled by Seahawk junior defender Josefine Allain (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) and wound up in the corner of the net for a Pioneer score.

Less than five minutes later the Connecticut school would strike again when Lindsay Elliott found Britney Dupee for a goal solidifying the first victory of the season for the visiting Pioneers.

As for the scoresheet, Sacred Heart bested the Seahawks in the shots category (18-5) as well as corner kicks (5-2).

Wagner finished with nine fouls to Sacred Heart's eight.

As for goalkeeping, Seahawk freshman Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) had eight saves on the day while Pioneer freshman Meghan Reichelt finished with four.

The Seahawks will look to bounce back this Sunday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson University at Wagner College Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
