Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches at Siena and La Salle over the weekend. The Seahawks lost both matches by 7-0 scores and are now 1-4 on the season.
Against La Salle, senior Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) lost to George Gennaoui by a 6-0, 6-1 count at No. 1 singles. At second singles, sophomore John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) was felled by Eric Glick 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) was defeated by Andrew Petrusky at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Byron Clohessy lost by the same score to Ryan Knarr at fourth singles Senior Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) was blanked by Christopher Butera at No. 5 singles. At sixth singles, Sheldon Wilson was defeated 6-2, 6-0.
La Salle won the doubles' point after winning all three doubles' matches.
The Seahawks fared no better at Siena losing by the same score. Amster was felled at first singles against Jeremy Deuel. Le Blanc lost a tough 6-4, 6-4 decision to Nick Rutherford. Stefan Putyera blanked Serbiak 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Jay Godbole defeated Clohessy 6-0, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. Shuler was shut out by Kevin Gioia at No. 5 singles. Wilson was also blanked by Jose Loren at sixth singles.
Siena took the doubles' point after winning all three matches.
Wagner is next in action on Tuesday when they head to Saint Peter's for a 3:00 pm match.
