New Britain, CT - The Wagner swimming team finished the two day Central Connecticut State University Invitational by defeating St. Francis (PA) and Sacred Heart to start the 2007-2008 season at 2-0.
The Seahawks started the second day on the right foot, taking fourth and seventh place in the 200 yard medley. Sophomore Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) and senior Jess Radka (Reading, PA/Holy Name) kept the winning flow going with second and third place finishes in the 400 yard IM with times of 4:44.12 and 4:45.53 respectively.
Junior Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) continued her winning ways with a first place finish in the 1000 yard free, a fifth place finish in the 200 yard free. Junior work-horse Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) was right behind Tomlinson, finishing second in the 1000 yard free and seventh in the 200 yard free.
Senior Lindsey Rogers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) provided a pivotal performance in the 100 yard free by finishing fourth while freshman Bethny Brown (Enfield, CT) placed fourth in the 100 yard breast while swimming the second leg of the 200 yard medley relay, a team that took fifth place.
The Seahawks return to the pool October 19th at the Sonny Werblin Invitational in Piscataway, NJ.
