Teaneck, NJ - After Wagner scored the first point of the game FDU ripped off 10-straight points and never looked back on their way to a dominating 67-30 win earlier today at the Rothman Center. With the loss Wagner falls to 1-12 and 0-3 in the NEC while the Knights improve to 4-8 and 1-1 in conference play.
The Green & White offense was shut down by the FDU-defense as they were limited to just 22.1 percent shooting on 10-44 from the floor. Both totals are the lowest in Wagner history. Wagner's shooting effort breaks the previous mark set in a loss at Maryland on Nov. 25, 2000 while their 10 field goals eclipses the record of 13 set twice, most recently in a loss to Manhattan on Dec. 28, 2004.
FDU on the other hand hit 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor while outrebounding Wagner 51-27, including 18-6 on the offensive-end, which led to a 21-2 advantage in second-chance points. FDU also outscored Wagner 34-10 in the paint and 30-8 in points off of turnovers.
Junior Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) led Wagner with nine points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior Jessie Collins (Crofton, MD / Arundel) and junior Ali Ridge (Barrington, IL / Fremd) each also chipped in with six points.
Christy Altamirano led FDU with 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs.
Wagner will now have a day off before making the short-trip to the shore to take on Monmouth on Monday, Jan. 8 at 7 pm at Boylan Gym.
