Sept. 3, 2006

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team fell in their home opener to the Seawolves of Stony Brook University this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium by the score of 7-0. They now move to a record of 0-2-0 on the season.

Stony Brook (3-0-0) struck first early on in the contest when Kelly Grant scored off a corner kick with 13:40 gone by. The next strike for the Seawolves occurred soon after when Kate Collins headed it in from a Trine Allenberg corner kick for a goal only 48 seconds later.

Stony Brook would tack on five more goals.

The Seahawks tried to battle back into the game but, unfortunately, to no avail. Freshman forward Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) had two opportunities in the game to put scores up on the board for Wagner but both were saved by Seawolve goalkeeper Marisa Viola.

Sophomore back Josephine Allain (Centerville, MA/Barnstable), sophomore midfielder Diane Gantenhammer (South Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale), and freshman midfielder Mallory Taaffe (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) also recorded shots on goal for the Seahawks.

In goal, senior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) split time with freshman Megan Lasky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold). Wilson had six saves and played all 45 minutes in the first half while Lasky spelled her for the entire second half and recorded two saves.

The Seahawks next game is this Friday when they take on the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) at 4 p.m.
