BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - On the strength of four singles wins the Wagner College Seahawks (1-2; 1-1 NEC) picked up their first win of the season over St. Francis (NY) (0-1; 0-1 NEC) by a 4-3 count.
With the score tied at three, the match came down to graduate student Rob Kiley (Greenlawn, NY / Hofstra) and Elan Evans at No. 4 singles. Kiley didn't disappoint, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to give the Seahawks their first win of the year.
Freshman John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) picked up his first collegiate victory at No. 2 singles in perfect fashion defeating Vihren Todorov 6-0, 6-0. In five singles, freshman Kevin Callaghan (E. Northport, NY / Elwood) was another first time winner, posting a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Chris Sepulveda. Junior Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) rounded out the victorious Seahawks with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rob Vandenburg at No. 6 singles.
Junior Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) lost 6-1, 6-0 to Jindrich Chalupka at No. 1 singles while freshman Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Dima Malinsky at third singles.
The Terriers captured the doubles' point as they took first and third doubles. The Seahawks' tandem of Serbiak and Kiley won 8-0 at second doubles.
Wagner is next in action on Sunday, October 1 at noon when they head to Siena to take on the Saints.
