Staten Island, NY - The Seahawks raced out to a 27-0 halftime lead and never looked back as went on to a 34-0 victory. Wagner remains undefeated and improves to 4-0 for the first time since 1995 while Saint Peter's moves to 0-4 with the loss.
The Seahawks produced a season high 513 yards of total offense, while the defense pitched the first shutout at Wagner College stadium since a 29-0 win over Robert Morris in 2002. Wagner held the Peacocks to 0 yards rushing in the game after making four sacks for a loss of 29 yards.
Senior WR Chris Turner (Syracuse, NY / Henninger) scored twice as he caught five passes for 111 yards as sophomore QB Matt Abbey (La Canada, CA / St. Francis) was 12-20 for 211 yards. On the ground senior RB Warren Barnett (Springfield, MA / Springfield Central) ran for 119 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown.
Saint Peter's had the ball moving on the opening drive of the game moving the ball inside the Wagner five yard line. After three straight stops by the Seahawks the Peacocks brought on the field goal unit, but a fake field goal attempt failed and Wagner gained possession. An 11 play 67 yard drive was then capped off by a 40 yard field from junior Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ / Keyport) giving the Seahawks a 3-0 lead.
Still in the first quarter after Saint Peter's turned the ball over on downs the Seahawks wasted little time finding the endzone. On the first play of the possession Abbey connected on a 64 yard touchdown pass to Turner to put Wagner up 10-0. Czech then added a 23 yard field goal at 9:21 in the second to extend the margin to 13-0.
Barnett joined the scoring in the second quarter completing a five play 49 yard drive with a 12 yard scoring run and a 20-0 lead. Junior Aliga Betts (Pembroke Pines, FL / Cooper City) then closed out the first half with a 22 yard TD run as the Seahawks went into the locker room with a 27-0 advantage.
The second half started with more of the same as Turner hauled in his second touchdown of the game, catching 19 yard pass from Abbey on the opening drive.
For the Seahawks it was their first game with more than 500 yards of total offense since the opener vs La Salle last season. Wagner is now 7-0 all time in head to head meeting vs Saint Peter's.
Scott Bonnono became Saint Peter's all time leading passer in the game moving ahead of Andre Harris (3585) as he finished the day 20-34 for 164 yards. Jaleel Kindell made six catches for 78 yards.
Wagner is back in action next week at they travel to Sacred Heart for a Northeast Conference game at 1:00 pm
