Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team fell in their season opener to the Hawks of Saint Joseph's University tonight in Philadelphia by the score of 5-0. They are now 0-1-0 on the new season.
Saint Joseph's attacked early in the contest when Ali Wean found Nancy Cook with a one-on-one opportunity against Wagner goalkeeper Ashley Wilson (Sr., Secane, PA/Upper Darby) and scored the goal to make it 1-0 Saint Joseph's with 6:31 gone by in the game.
It was much of the same the rest of the match-up as the Seahawks had trouble stopping the potent Saint Joseph's offense. The home team would go on to tally four more goals, one off a free kick in the 34th minute and the final one coming in the 82nd minute.
Senior Jenn Schweizer (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and sophomore Diane Gantenhammer (South Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) each had a chance to get on the board for Wagner with a shot on goal but were unsuccessful.
Wilson played all 90 minutes in goal making four saves on the night.
The Seahawks next game is their home opener this Sunday when they face off against the Seawolves of Stony Brook University at 1 p.m.
