Box Score
EMMITSBURG, MD - Behind a dominating performance by senior rhp Mike D'Angelis (Paramus, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) the Wagner College Seahawks defeated Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in the first game of today's doubleheader at Golibart Field. With the win Wagner improved to 5-18 and 4-0 in the NEC while the Mount fell to 10-14 and 3-4 in the NEC.
D'Angelis struck out six while scattering five hits in 5.0 innings of work in moving to 1-5. Relieving D'Angelis was redshirt-junior Andrew Bailey (Haddon Heights, NJ / Paul VI), who struck out two in 2.0 hitless innings while picking up his second save of the year.
The Seahawks scored what would be the eventual game-winning run in the top of the first. Freshman Andrew Huebner (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) singled on a 0-2 pitch moving senior Nick Papa (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) to give the Seahawks runners at first and third with two outs. Freshman Mike Maffucci (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) then doubled down the left-field line plating Papa to provide the difference in the Seahawks 1-0 victory.
From that point the Seahawks could only muster two singles off the bats of freshman Pete Delleani (Manalapan, NJ / CBA) and senior Mike Picarello (Clifton, NJ / Clifton). Mount St. Mary's starter Dustin Pease went the distance, giving up just the one run while striking out four in falling to 5-3.
