Final Stats
Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team was handed a tough loss on a blustery, rainy afternoon at Wagner College Stadium, falling to Canisius College 9-4. The Green & White now stand at 0-3 in the MAAC and 0-10 overall on the year.
Despite the setback, the Seahawks turned in a stellar defensive effort as they held their opponent to a season-low 9 goals. Senior goalkeeper Chris Sochaki (Brant Beach, NJ/Shawnee) was once again a force in front of the net, turning away 18 shots on goal while playing the entire 60 minutes of play.
It was anybody's game early as Canisius only took a 2 goal lead into halftime at 4-2. Wagner goals came from sophomore Mike Hess (Potomac, MD/The Heights School) early in the first quarter and sophomore Andrew Daly (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) with 3:37 remaining until halftime.
The Seahawks saw the game well within reach when junior attack Taylor Poschmann (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) netted a goal with 6:14 left in the third quarter making the score 6-4 in favor of Canisius. But they couldn't weather a late 3-0 run from the Golden Griffs lead by their attack Kevin Ross who lead all players with 5 goals on the day.
The Seahawks' next contest is next Saturday when they host Mount St. Mary's in a MAAC Conference match-up at 1 p.m.
