Women's Tennis Defeated By Monmouth 7-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Playing without freshmen Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) and Marie Phillpotts (Kingston, JA / Hillel Academy), their No. 1 and No. 2 players, the Wagner College Seahawks fell to Monmouth 7-0 in West Long Branch, NJ yesterday, April 4. With the loss Wagner falls to 3-10 and 2-3 in the Northeast Conference.

Senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Sarah Ragan at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) lost to Ashleigh Johnson 6-3, 6-0. Classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) dropped her match at No. 3 singles to Laura Giuliari 6-1, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) was defeated by Kaitlin Gallagher 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) lost at No. 5 singles by a count of 6-2, 6-4 to Kelly Shedelbower and senior Kim Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA / Silver Lake Regional) fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to Krista McCormack.

In doubles play, Owen and Mahtani lost a hard-fought 8-6 match to Johnson and Gallagher at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Patel and Crane also fell 8-6 to Ragan and Shedelbower. Rounding out the doubles action, Boyd and Pecinovsky lost to Giuliari and McCormick 8-1.

Wagner returns to action this weekend at the College of Staten Island for their final home contests of the season when they host LIU on Friday, April 7 at 2 pm and St. Francis (PA) on Saturday, April 8 at 11 am.
