HAMDEN, CT - The Wagner College women's tennis team was blanked by Quinnipiac 7-0 yesterday in Hamden, CT. With the loss the Seahawks are now 3-9 and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Bobcats are 6-6 and 1-0 in the NEC.
In No.1 singles, freshman Marie Phillpotts (Kingston, JA / Hillel Academy) fell to Gabby Pasternak 6-0, 6-0. At the second spot, senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) lost to Tina Hoang 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3, sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) was shut out by Jackie Herb 6-0, 6-0 while classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) also lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to Amanda Petruzzi. At five singles, sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) lost to Danielle Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out singles action, freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) lost to Amy Sarrazin at No. 6 6-0, 6-1.
In No. 1 doubles action, the duo of Owen and Mahtani lost to Pasternak and Hoang 8-0.. At No. 2 doubles, Phillpotts and Crane dropped a 8-1 decision to Petruzzi and Herb. Rounding out doubles play, Boyd and senior Kim Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA / Silver Lake Regional) lost to Rodriguez and Nicole Adams 8-2.
The Seahawks return to action Tuesday, April 4 when they head to the shore to take on Monmouth at 3 pm.
