Final Stats
LEXINGTON, VA - The Wagner men's lacrosse team fell to the Virginia Military Institute 14-4 this afternoon in a MAAC Conference match-up. The Seahawks now stand at 0-6 in the MAAC and 0-13 overall on the year.
The Keydets of VMI jumped on the Green & White very early, as they posted a quick 5-0 advantage a few minutes into the second period. Keydets senior David Trimble was a big part of the problem for Wagner as he notched three goals during the run.
The Seahawks finally cut into the deficit when senior midfielder Jared Jax (Freeport, NY/Freeport) found senior Tom Marchetti (Washington, DC/Gonzaga) for a score with 4:39 left in the second period. They would tack on another goal before halftime - that one coming from freshman attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) - with just 13 seconds before the break. VMI lead at half, 7-2.
Unfortunately for the Seahawks, however, the second half wouldn't be any kinder.
Wagner would get only two more goals, both in the third period, from freshman Evan Shull (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and junior Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD/Severna Park). The Keydets would hold them scoreless in the fourth period and tacked on another 7 scores making the final, 14-4.
Senior Chris Sochaki (Brant Beach, NJ/Shawnee) was credited with 12 saves in goal for the Seahawks.
Wagner travels to Manhattan College for their last road contest of the season on Wednesday. It's a 4 p.m. start time.
