Women's Tennis Blows Out FDU 7-0

TEANECK, NJ - Using a dominant team-effort the Wagner College Seahawks shut out Fairleigh Dickinson 7-0 on Saturday, April 15 while improving to 4-13 and 3-5 in the NEC.

The Seahawks swept all six singles matches and the three doubles matches, claiming the doubles point.

Senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) got things rolling at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marie Keeler. At No. 2, sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) also won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 over Tricia Smalls. Classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) was nearly perfect in her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nadia Ortubia. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) defeated Stephanie de los Santos with a 6-0, 6-1 pasting. Freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) was victorious at No. 5 singles over Stacey Honore with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win. Rounding out singles play, senior Kim Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA / Silver Lake Regional) was almost flawless in a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory over Fana Osunloye.

In doubles play, Owen and Mahtani won 8-1 at No. 1 while Patel and Crane also won 8-4 at No. 2. At No. 3 doubles, Boyd and Pecinovsky rounded out the winning effort with an 8-3 victory.

Wagner rounds out their regular season with a 6-pm match at St. Francis (NY) on Tuesday, April 18 at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
