Final Stats
Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team were defeated today at Wagner College Stadium, falling to Mount St. Mary's 17-7. The Green & White now stand at 0-4 in the MAAC and 0-11 overall on the year.
Early on, the Seahawks looked destined to be in the contest all afternoon when sophomore Mike Hess (Potomac, MD/The Heights School) scored only ten seconds into the game on an unassisted goal. Wagner only trailed the Mountaineers 4-2 after the first quarter and saw the deficit at a measly 3 with a 7-4 Mount St. Mary's advantage going into halftime.
But the Mountaineers proved too much in the long run as they held Wagner scoreless in the third period while tacking on 5 goals of their own. In the final period, it proved to be much of the same as Mount St. Mary's had 5 goals to Wagner's 3.
The loss didn't come without solid performances on the home side, however.
As he's done all year, freshman attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) proved to be a legitimate force - and one of the main reasons for the early barrage - as he netted 3 goals in the game. He now leads the Green & White with 13 goals on the season.
Junior attack Taylor Poschmann (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) also added to Wagner's scoreboard tally as he had 2 goals on the day, putting him at 10 goals on the year, second to Policicchio.
In the face-off department, sophomore Mike Hess simply owned a carousel of Mountaineer opponents who challenged him winning all but 7, going 21 for 28 on the day.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Sochaki (Brant Beach, NJ/Shawnee) saved 17 shots for the Seahawks on the afternoon, playing all but 2 minutes in the contest.
The Seahawks' next contest is this Wednesday, April 19, when they play host to Saint Joseph's in a MAAC Conference match-up at 3:30 p.m.
