WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ -The Wagner College men's tennis team fell to Monmouth 7-0 yesterday at the shore in West Long Branch, NJ. With the loss Wagner is now 2-10 and 1-5 in the NEC.
At No. 1 singles, senior Steve Johnsen (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) lost a tough 6-2, 7-6 decision to Ben Evenden. At No. 2, Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) also lost a heartbreaker 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 to Tim McLane. Senior Brandon Sogluizzo (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) was set down 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles by Vik Gupta. At No. 4, graduate student Scott Chamberlin (Torrington, CT / Torrington / Western New England) lost 6-1, 7-6 to Mitch Stanley. Rounding out singles play, sophomore Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles by Miles Vidreiro.
At No. 1 doubles Johnsen and Amster lost 8-2 while Chamberlin and Sogluizzo lost a hard-fought 8-5 decision at No. 2
The Seahawks return to action at Rider today starting at 2 pm.
