Wagner Blows Out FDU 11-1 To Complete Doubleheader Sweep

TEANECK, NJ - A powerful offense and a dominant pitching performance fueled Wagner to an 11-1 victory over FDU, giving the Seahawks a doubleheader sweep at FDU Field. Sophomore lhp Joe Testa (Brick, NJ / Brick) shut down the Knights, striking out 12 and allowing just one run on six hits in a dominant complete-game effort and the Wagner offense banged out a season-high 11 runs on a season-best 16 hits as the Seahawks improved to 3-17 and a perfect 2-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while FDU fell to 3-17 and 1-4 in the NEC.

Junior Joe DiGeronimo's (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne) went 3-4 with a double, triple and five RBI while senior Nick Papa (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) was 3-5 with two runs and a RBI to lead the Seahawks. Freshman Pete Delleani (Manalapan, NJ / CBA) went 2-2 with two runs, and sophomore Dan Morvay (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) was 2-4, rounding out the top offensive performers for Wagner.

Wagner came out of the gates on fire in game two, as their first three hitters all singled. The Seahawks scored their first run on freshman Andrew Huebner's (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) sacrifice fly and tacked on another one on a Mike Maffucci (Fr., Nutley, NJ / Nutley) single making it 2-0. In the bottom half FDU threatened loading the bases, but Testa extinguished the threat with his third strikeout of the inning.

The Seahawks plated two more runs in the second and the third to go up 6-0. In the top of the fourth, DiGeronimo put the game on ice with a bases-clearing triple to make it 9-0 on their way to an easy 11-1 victory.

Testa's dominant performance runs his record to 1-3 while Meadus falls to 1-3.

In the doubleheader sweep, DiGeronimo went 5-8 with a double, triple and six RBI.

The Green & White look to complete the three-game sweep when they conclude their series tomorrow at FDU, starting at 12 pm.
