FAIRFIELD, CT -The Wagner College men's tennis team lost at Sacred Heart 6-1 earlier today. The Seahawks are now 2-8 and 1-3 in the Northeast Conference while the Pioneers improve to 3-8 and 2-2 in the NEC.
The Seahawks captured the doubles point as senior Steve Johnsen (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) and sophomore Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) teamed up to defeat Jason Farhadi and Joe Lanciotti 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while senior Brandon Sogluizzo (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) and graduate student Scott Chamberlin (Torrington, CT / Torrington / Western New England) beat Mark Mallory and Matt Farhadi by an identical 8-3 count at No. 2 doubles.
Sacred Heart captured all six points in singles play. At No. 1, Johnsen lost to Pete George 6-4, 6-4. Amster fell to Chris McDonnell by a 6-2, 6-0 count at second singles. At No. 3, Sogluzzo lost to Kevin Guidicipietro 6-2, 6-3. Chamberlin fell to Bryan Rodgers 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth spot and sophomore Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) was defeated by Kevin Teague 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Wagner lost the sixth point by default.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when they take on Quinnipiac at 10 am.
