New Haven, CT - Host Yale University took a non-conference softball double header from the Wagner Seahawks by scores of 2-0 and 8-3 at DeWitt Family Field. The outcomes leave Wagner at 14-12 on the year as they head into Northeast Conference play at home tomorrow. Yale moved to 19-9 on the season, defeating the Seahawks for the third time this season.

Yale started things off in the opener as Megan Enyeart belted a solo home run into left with one out in the second. The Bulldogs then made it 2-0 in the third with a two out RBI single from Meredith Parks.

Peggy Hunt held a no-hitter through the first five innings before Wagner senior Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) knocked a leadoff single back up the middle in the sixth. That would be the only hit for the Seahawks in the game as Hunt (5-2) tossed the complete game shutout with two strikeouts.

Junior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) scattered seven hits allowing the two runs with one strikeout. The Seahawks have scored just eight runs for Hopkins (0-4) in her four starts this season.

Yale scored three runs on no hits in the home half of the first as the Seahawk pitching staffed combined for six walks, including five consecutive with two outs. Wagner answered back in the second as sophomore Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Batistelli then made it 3-2 in the third with a run scoring double into center.

The Bulldogs would build up a 7-2 lead after a single run in the third and three more in the fourth. Wagner would a run in the fifth as Hopkins singled and would score on a RBI single from Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic). After Vanore's single the Seahawks would strand runners at the corners with consecutive flyouts to the outfield. A sacrifice fly by the Bulldogs in the sixth accounted for the final Yale score.

Wagner loaded the bases on a walk and a couple of errors in the seventh, but a Lineout double play closed out the game.

Freshman Kasey Kraft (Redding, CA / Foothill) was dealt the loss in her first collegiate decision. Sophomore Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) came on in the first to complete the game going 5.1 innings allowing five runs, four earned.

Hopkins and Vanore each had two hits and a RBI in the game.

Wagner begins Northeast Conference play tomorrow at 12:00 pm as they host Central Conn. St. at the Lower Athletic Field.
