Staten Island, NY - The arms of Wagner pitchers Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) and Dara Gadziala (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) led the Seahawks to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Iona 4-0 and 2-1 (8) at the Lower Athletic Field earlier today. The pair of wins jumps Wagner to 12-10 overall while the Gaels slide to 4-12 on the season.

In the opener Miller tossed her fourth shutout of the season, a four hitter, with six strikeouts to improve to 8-5 on the year. After a one out single in the first the junior sent down 16 straight batters until a two out infield single in the sixth.

Wagner provided all the offense needed in the bottom of the first scoring three runs on two hits. Sophomore Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) led off with a walk , then stole second before coming around to score on a double by sophomore Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central). Sophomore Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) would send Iwicki in with a triple to right and then came home herself on a wild pitch.

Batistelli, who had two hits in the game, then added a sacrifice fly in the third scoring Stevens to account for the other Wagner run.

Laura Sotto recorded a pair of hits for Iona. Katie Jo Passero (0-4) took the loss on the mound.

In the second game freshman Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic) bounced a one out game ending single into right that scored classmate Cindy Bagnoli (Old Tappan, NJ / N. Valley Regional) from second with the winning run.

The Seahawks trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh before forcing extra innings with a rally. Senior Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) started the frame drawing a full count walk and raced around to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Margaret Gallia (Las Vegas, NV / Community College HS). Gallagher was then knock in one batter later on a pinch hit sacrifice fly from Miller. Stevens then gave the Seahawks a chance to win the game, driving a ball to the centerfield fence before being caught.

Iona scored its lone run of the game in the third inning on a RBI triple into the right field corner off the bat of Alyson Funn.

Gadziala (4-2) tossed the eight inning complete game allowing seven hits, while striking out three. She surrendered just one hit in the final three innings of work. Lauren Spohn (1-2) was charged with the loss for the Gaels allowing four hits and the two runs.
