Women's Tennis Dominates Delaware State 5-2

DOVER, DE - The Wagner College women's tennis team improved to 3-7 on the season following a convincing 5-2 victory over Delaware State.

Sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) pulled out a come-from behind 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory over Julieta Yung at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set 4-6, classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) rallied to dismantle Stephanie Peels 6-0, 6-2 in the last two sets. At No. 5, sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) won in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 over Anikka Ahmed while freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) rounded out the Seahawk winners in singles play, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Yvone Dennis.

In No.1 singles, freshman Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) lost to Janine Jacob 6-0, 6-0. At the second spot, senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) fell 6-4, 6-1 to Julia Balzer.

In doubles play, Owen and Mahtani defeated Yung and Peels 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Patel and Boyd took out Ahmed and Dennis 8-6. At No. 1 doubles, Frazza and Crane fell to Jacob and Balzer 8-3.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, March 31 when they head to Princeton for a 3 pm contest.
