Wagner Makes it Six In a Row a Row at the Rebel Games With Wins Over Butler and Dayton

Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) started the scoring in the second with a double to center scoring junior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) who reached on an error to start the inning. Senior Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) would later add a two out single into left to score Batistelli and give Wagner a 2-0 lead.

A six run third inning the gave the Seahawks a more than comfortable advantage. Freshman Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) knocked in the first run with a single into left while Hopkins and Gallagher each added two run doubles later in the stanza. Junior Natalie Stephens (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) would then sacrifice in Batistelli to complete the scoring in the inning.

Senior Christy Sykora (Orland Park, IL / Carl Sandburg) would give Wagner an additional run in the top of the fifth with a single up the middle to score Hopkins.

Miller won her sixth straight decision in game one


While the bats were alive for the green and white, junior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) was again brilliant on the mound. Miller upped her season record to 6-4 with her sixth straight win and second shut out of the year.

Butler would be held hitless until one out in third when Lindsay Schluge dropped a single in front of a graceful dive by right fielder Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central). Miller would allow another hit in the inning, and just three for the game, but the shutout was kept alive by a diving stop and fling to third by Gallagher at shortstop.

Hopkins, Gallagher, and Iwicki each had three hits in the game.

In the second game of the morning, Dayton staked a 2-0 lead in its first at bat in the first with two RBI doubles that were both preceded by walks. In the third, Wagner would cut the margin in half with a RBI single from Batistelli that scored freshman Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic).

The Flyers would take a 3-1 lead in the top half of the fourth scoring just once after junior Dara Gadziala (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) escaped a bases loaded with no outs situation. The Seahawks would then take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning scoring three times.

Vanore led off with a walk and scored on a double off the left center wall by the next batter Hopkins. Batistelli hit safely for the third time in the day to move Hopkins to third where she would score on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Gallagher knocked Batistelli in for her fourth RBI on the day as Wagner grabbed a 4-3 lead.

After a 1-2-3 fifth from the Flyers, the Seahawks offense went back to work in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) started it off with a single up the middle and would score on a fielders choice AB from Hopkins. Vanore then scored on a wild pitch for a 6-3 advantage.

Gadzialla (3-2) settled down after the first to picked up the win for her third straight victory. She surrendered the three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Wagner completes play for the week on Saturday as they take on Binghamton and Florida A&M.
