Riverside, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team's four game win steak was snapped today at the hands of Cal Baptist University 12-11 in overtime. This was the Seahawks second straight overtime game and the loss moves their record to 10-7 on the year. The Green & White used a furious fourth quarter rally to even the game and push it to overtime as they scored three of the last four goals in regulation.
Down two with three minutes remaining Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) received a pass from Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) to pull Wagner within one at 8-7. Hoelck then followed with a goal of her own, her fourth of the game to tie the score at eight. Cal Baptist would tack on their ninth goal to take a lead with 28 seconds remaining, however the Seahawks came right back as Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) unloaded a shot into the net tying the game at nine and sending the contest to overtime.
In the first overtime session Cal Baptist scored two goals but Kramer closed out the period with a goal leaving Wagner down one heading to the second extra session. In the final overtime Cal Baptist took a two goal lead; shortly after Kramer would add her third goal of the game to bring the contest within one but Wagner would not score again. Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the Seahawks in net with 11 saves.
Other contributors for Wagner included Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) who tallied two goals and one assist. Wagner lost five out of six sprints in the contest. The Green & White are next in action later today when they take on Cal State San Bernardino.
