Men's Tennis Falls To Valparaiso 7-0

ORLANDO, FL -The Wagner College men's tennis team was blanked by the Valparaiso Crusaders 7-0 in their first match of the spring season earlier today in Orlando, FL. The Seahawks are now 1-7 on the season.

first singles, Nic Kooyers defeated senior Steve Johnsen (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) fell to Joe Venegas 6-0, 6-0. Senior Brandon Sogluizzo (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) fared no better at No. 3 losing to Mike Wagner by the same 6-0, 6-0 score. At fourth singles, graduate student Scott Chamberlin (Torrington, CT / Torrington / Western New England) fell in his first collegiate tennis match by a count of 6-0, 6-1 to Mike Shideler. Sophomore Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) lost at No. 5 to Dave Bukowski 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Valpo swept the Seahawks as the tandem of Kooyers and Shideler defeated Johnson and Amster 8-1. The duo of Sogluizzo and Chamberlin also fell by an identical 8-1 count to Bukowski and Wagner.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday March 25 at 10 am when they host Loyola (MD).
