Feb. 18, 2006

Final Stats

Staten Island, NY -- The Wagner College Seahawks women's swim team remains in third place after the second day of action at the Northeast Conference swim championships in Landover, Maryland. The Green & White have tallied 352 points thus far and trail just Central Connecticut State (435) and defending champion Gardner-Webb (504).

The big moment of the day for Wagner came when sophomore Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) took first place in the 100-yard butterfly at 57.09 which was an ECAC qualifying time. The win also marks back to back titles for Radka as she won the same event at last year's championships. Radka's time also qualified her for the United States Open Swimming Championships held at Purdue University in December. Coming off a solid first day, freshman Alyssa Montgomery (Yucaipa, CA/Redlands) kept things moving with a fifth place time in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:54.80. That was an ECAC qualifying mark as well.

In the relays Wagner had a solid day. Early on it was a third place time in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Halley Allen (Bryan,TX/Bryan), Amanda Males (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg), Radka, and Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School) raced to a time of 1:49.17 which was an ECAC qualifying mark. Later on in the 800-yard freestyle the quartet of McDonald, Radka, Montgomery, and senior Shannon Johnston (Cherry Hill, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) landed in second place with a time of 7:43.74 which was also good enough to be an ECAC qualifying mark.

The Seahawks enter today's final day of championships attemtping to make up a deficit of over 100 points.
