Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks women's swim team stands in third place after day one at the Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Maryland. The Seahawks have tallied 139 points thus far and trail Central Connecticut State and two-time defending champion Gardner-Webb.
The Seahawk got points from a variety of places starting with the 200-yard freestyle relay where they garnered a fifth place finish with the quartet of Alyssa Montgomery (Yucaipa, CA/Redlands), Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School), Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing), and Halley Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan) putting up an ECAC qualifying time of 1:39.07.
In the 500-yard freestyle Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) picked up a third place finish with an ECAC qualifying time of 5:02.58. Last year's co-rookie of the NEC Championships, Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) took second place in the 200-yard IM with a school record 2:07.56, which was a good enough time to qualify as an ECAC mark. The individual scoring continued in the 50-yard freestyle when Allen took third at 24.35, which was an ECAC qualifying time and another Wagner school record.
Finally, the Seahawks pulled out a fifth place time in the 400-yard medley relay when Allen, Radka, Montgomery, and Eileen Dowd (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) joined forces to put up an ECAC qualifying time of 4:01.90.
The Green & White are back in the pool today for Day 2 of the championships where they will be competing in such events as the 400-yard IM and the 200-yard butterfly.
