Staten Island, NY -- The Wagner College indoor track and field squad took part in their second meet of the season venturing to Fordham University for the Fordham Invite. This was not a team scoring event but again Wagner came through with many solid performances.
The Green & White got it kicked off in the weight throw, Ashley Simon (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion Area) took third place with a toss of 15.29 meters. Crystal Smith (Zenda, WI/Big Foot) was not far behind in fifth place with a distance of 13.63 meters. Simon also added a second place finish in the shotput at 11.73 meters. Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) continued the hot start to the indoor season with a first place in the long jump at 5.57 meters. Alfano wasn't done there as she took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, second in the 60 meter high hurdles at 9.1 seconds and third in the 60 meter dash at 8.1 seconds.
Freshman Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) also had a nice day with a third place showing in the triple jump at 10.98 meters. Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) took care of business in the distance pulling third in the mile run at 5:32.9. Renee Darmstadt (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) and Jocelyn Ford (Neptune, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) had identical times in the 400 meters at 1:01.0. Samantha Snukis (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) was also money in the 500 meter run 1:22.1 which was good for second place. Former XC NEC rookie of the week Jen Wejsa (Wantage, NJ/High Point) had a first place time in the 1,000 meter run at 3:13.3. Also Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) crossed the line in second place for the 3,000 meters at 11:31.5.
The men also came through with some quality action as Jason Paderon (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) grabbed third place in the triple jump at 11.73 meters and second in the long jump at 5.65 meters. Also of note were Thomas Davis (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) and Blake Lintelman (Coral Springs, FL/West Point Military) going third and fourth in the shot put with marks of 13.42 meters and 13.41 meters respectively.
Philip Nelson and Claudio Perfetto (Staten Island, NY/Msgr. Farrell) were third and fourth in the high jump with identical marks of 1.72 meters. Freshman Matt Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) was good for third place in 60 meter high hurdles at 8.8 seconds. Another frosh in Ricky Schroeder (Whitehouse Station, NY/Hunterdon Central Regional) had a third place run in the 500 meters at 1:07.9. Continuing the parade of freshman James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) pulled into fifth place in the 3,000 meter run at 9:16.4.
One other note was the Wagner women winning the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:02.5.
