Seahawks Suffer 70-44 Loss at Columbia

New York, NY - The Wagner Seahawks men's basketball suffered a 70-44 loss at host Columbia University in non-conference action at Levien Gymnasium earlier tonight. Shooting just - from the field, Wagner fell to 2-6 on the season, while the Lions upped their record to 6-3 overall.

For the eighth time in as many games this season, the Seahawks found themselves trailing at the half following an 11-3 run by Columbia that closed out the stanza. After senior Matt Vitale (Brooklyn, NY / St. Edmunds Prep) nailed a three to tie the game at 16-16, Wagner managed just one made field goal over the final 7:16 and trailed 27-19 at intermission.

The Columbia run continued after half time as the lead grew to 17 (42-25) in the first eight minutes with another 15-6 stretch. With the already more than decided the Seahawks fell down by as many as 28 before all was over.

Sophomore Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS / Olathe East) posted a team high nine points for Wagner all coming from beyond the arc. Sophomore Llewchean Radford (Newport News, VA / Hertitage) added eight points. Columbia was led by 20 points from Ben Nwachukwu who shot 8-10. The Lions hit 59.4 percent in the second half and ended the game shooting 54.9 percent from the field.

Next for Wagner, the Seahawks return to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday against Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start and will be televised live on MSG.
