South Orange, NJ -- The Wagner College indoor track and field squads got their season started off at the Seton Hall Open this past Sunday in South Orange, NJ. This open event did not feature team scores but the Green & White had several solid individual performances.
Sophomore Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) took first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.54 meters while freshman Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) was right behind in the second place at 5.34 meters. Alfano returned with a second place mark in the high jump, elevating to a measurement of 5'4" and then added a second place in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.07. Gland kept things moving as well when she nailed down a third place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.64.
Junior Ashley Simon (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion Area) got off to a good start grabbing first place in the shotput with a winning distance of 12.03.
On the men's side junior Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.17.
The team will be back in action this friday at the Fordham Invitational starting at 3pm.
