Mount St. Mary's Rides Hot Three-Point Shooting To 83-70 Win Over Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Dominique Mazzuchi's career-high 26 points and Tiffany Green's 25 points helped propel Mount St. Mary's (1-5; 1-0 NEC) to an 83-70 win over Wagner (1-5; 0-1 NEC) in the conference-opener for both teams earlier tonight at the Spiro Sports Center. The duo also combined to hit 10-17 from behind the arc while helping the Mountaineers hit at a 45.8-percent clip (11-24) from three-point land for the game.

Despite the loss, Wagner was led by sophomore Olivia Nagle (Acton, MA / Acton-Boxborough), who was virtually unstoppable hitting for 23 points on 9-15 shooting while pulling down six rebounds in 38 minutes. The Seahawks outshot the Mount 45.6 percent (26-57) to 44.1 percent (26-59) from the field, but unlike the Mount hit only 2-14 from behind the arc. Wagner also won the battle of the boards (39-38) for the first time all season and saw their bench outscore the Mount 21-5.

The Mount took control early in the first half racing out to a quick 12-4 lead with 16:47 to go and never looked back. The Mountaineers would extend their lead to 18 at 37-19 with 5:14 to go in the half before Wagner would make a late push cutting it to 41-27 at the half. The Mount shot 50.0 percent (7-14) from behind the arc while Wagner was 0-4 from three-point land in the deciding period.

The Seahawks would cut the lead to 10 twice early in the second period only to see the Mount answer each time before forging ahead to a game-high lead of 24 points at 75-51 with 6:13 remaining. The Seahawks would then rip off seven straight points on their way to outscoring the Mountaineers 19-8 to end the game.

Senior Jessie Collins (Crofton, MD / Arundel) turned in her second-straight impressive performance with a season-best 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists while committing just one turnover in 28 minutes off the bench. Junior Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) was the third Seahawk-player in double-figures with 10 points. Freshman Naomi Augustin (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream Central) had a career-high nine points and four rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench to round out the top-performers for Wagner.

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 pm when they welcome Robert Morris to the Spiro Sports Center.
