Dec. 15, 2006

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's basketball team won their second straight game tonight with a 105-64 romp over Division III Union College. The Seahawks moved their season record to 4-6 on the year as they prepare for a two game swing at Purdue and Indiana St. next week. The Dutchmen fall to 2-4 on the year with the loss.

Junior forward James Ulrich (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Camden Catholic) was all over the stat sheet for Wagner with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks. He helped pace five players in double figures as all 10 players on the roster scored in the game for the Seahawks who have now won three straight at home.

Neither team managed a basket in the first four and a half minutes of the game as Wagner failed to score on the first six offensive possessions. Ulrich would finally break the drought with a lay-in at 15:21 to jump start the Seahawks who went on to a season high 43 points in the first half. The basket began a 13-5 start for the Seahawks which included threes from Mark Porter (Atlantic City, NJ / St. Augustine's Prep) and Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS / Olathe East).

Mundweiler would end the night with a team high 18 points making five three pointers on a school record 16 three point attempts.

Taking a 23 point lead (43-20) into the second half, Wagner continued the route extending the margin to as many as 50 before all was said and done. The Seahawks last broke the 100 point barrier at the end of 2004 in a 100-93 win over Sacred Heart. It also marked the most points for the green and white since putting up 122 at the beginning of the 2001-02 year against Brown.

Wagner piled on the points in the second half shooting 68.8 percent (22-32) from the field and ended the game hitting 56.7 percent. Freshmen Michael Orock (Hoboken, NJ / Hoboken) also had a career night amassing 13 points and five rebounds and shooting 4-6 from the floor. Classmate TJ Czeski (Amsterdam, NY / Amsterdam) led everyone in the ball game with eight assists.

Joe Mackey was the leading scorer for Union with 22 points hitting 6 of 13 three pointers. The Dutchmen shot 35.8 percent for the game.

Wagner heads to the Hoosier State next week for games at Purdue on Tuesday and at Indiana St on Thursday before a 14 day layoff during the holiday seasons.
