William & Mary Handles Seahawks, 77-53

Williamsburg, VA - In an attempt to win their second straight game, the Wagner men's basketball team was handled by host William & Mary University, 77-53 tonight at Kaplan Arena. The Seahawks fall to 1-3 overall while the Tribe evened their record at 1-1 with the win.

Sophomore Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS / Olathe East) led the team with 11 points, but the Seahawks shot just .327 (17-52) from the field, including an 8-31 (.258) showing from three.

Wagner never led in the game as they fell behind 8-0 to start. The Seahawks made it 13-8 at the 15:21 mark, after a three from Matt Vitale (Brooklyn, NY / St. Edmunds Prep), but neither team managed to score in the next four minutes. The Seahawks eventually closed the gap to two (13-11) at 11:06 in the first, but the Tribe answered with a 13-3 run that but them up 12 with two minutes left in the half and went ahead of the Seahawks 31-20 at intermission.

The second half saw the barrage continue as Wagner fell behind by as many as 27 before the final buzzer.

Laimis Kisielius led William & Mary with 18 points, while Danny Sumner was also in double figures with 12. The Tribe connected on 32-64 (.500) from the floor and held a 42-38 advantage in rebounding.

Wagner returns home to start a three game home stand on Saturday at 2:00 pm vs Vermont.
