Boston, MA -- The Wagner College women's swim team concluded competition at the Boston University Invite earlier today finishing in fifth place overall out of eight schools. The Green & White were also the top Northeast Conference finisher in a meet which featured such schools as Boston College and UMASS.
Wagner got things cooking in the first event of the day when sophomore Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) took top honors in the 1650 freestyle at 17:17.93. Wagner also picked up points in the same event when Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) and Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) came in fourth and fifth place with times of 17:31.92 and 17:36.55 respectively.
Moving along to the 200 yard backstroke, Dana Helyer (Milford, CT/Amity Reg) landed in 10th place with a time 2:10.31 which was a lifetime best. The scoring was far from over for the team as in the 100 yard freestyle Brigitta Roser (Ithaca,NY/Lansing) paddled through the water clocking a time of 53.22 which was good for fourth place and was also a personal best.
The 200 yard breaststroke saw senior Kate Wilson (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) found her self in sixth place hitting the wall in a time of 2:30.05 while Nicole Paduano (North Haven, CT/North Haven) was good for eighth place at 2:32.17 and Julie Gardner (Concord, CA/Concord) worked her way to tenth place at 2:30.96 which was second in the "B" heat.
Junior Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) added more to the scoreboard for Wagner with a third place time in the 200 yard butterfly 2:05.66. Tomlinson and Rodriguez-Lapman were also involved in the butterfly bonanza pulling into 12th and 15th place respectively. Tomlinson tallied a time of 2:09.79 while Rodriguez-Lapman was timed at 2:12.70. Wagner then closed out the day with a ninth place time in the 400 yard freestyle relay at 3:38.76.
The Seahawk team will not be in action again till December 9th when they face off against the Lions of Columbia University in Manhattan. However the Green & White do have a few qualifiers in the United States Open which will begin November 30 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Jess Radka among others will lead a Wagner contingent to the Hoosier state.
