Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a close 2-1 decision to Farleigh Dickinson (2-9-1, 1-3-0) at University Field in a Northeast Conference battle. They now move to a record of (0-12-0) overall and (0-3-0) in the NEC.
Both teams tussled back in forth for a good portion of the beginning of the game, as it wasn't until the 31st minute that would find any change indicated on the scoreboard.
FDU would make that change when their freshman forward Liza Offreda headed a service and deposited the ball just below the crossbar to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
That would not be the goal that would undo the Seahawks, however. Less than nine minutes later freshman midfielder Cristina Poliseno (Garden City, NY/Garden City) landed a cross from fellow midfielder Lizzie Wood (Sr., Boca Raton, FL/St. Andrews) for her first career goal that tied up the contest at 1-1.
The Seahawks held strong to the stalemate until the 63rd minute when the Knights' sophomore midfielder Natalie Bellini put a ball in the lower left corner of the goal past Wagner goalkeeper sophomore Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite) for a score that would prove to be the game-winner.
Reed spent all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Seahawks where she racked up an impressive ten saves on the afternoon.
The Seahawks come back home this Friday when they take on NEC opponent Central Connecticut State at Wagner College Stadium at 3 p.m.
