Staten Island, NY -- The Wagner College swim team participated in the Green & White scrimmage to kick off preparations for the 2006-2007 season. The meet which pitted the Seahawks against each other was taken by the white squad with a score of 61-45.
Senior co-captain Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) led the white squad while senior co-captain Bridget Amitrano (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream) led the green team. The meet was made up of odd distances and no official times.
Sophomore Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) and freshman Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) turned in excellent performances in the 800. Rodriguez-Lapman denied Tomlinson the proverbial crown by three tenths of a second in that race.
Other notable notes from the meet included
Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) gracefully swimming the 150 butterfly. In addition
Dana Helyer (Milford, CT/Amity Reg.) dueled with newcomer
Heather Roman-Green (Woodstock, NY/U. of Bridgeport) in the 150 backstroke with Roman-Green just edging Helyer by the slimmest of margins. Also, junior
Halley Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan) touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle.
The Seahawks will now continue daily workouts as they get ready for the first meet of the season October 14 and 15 in New Britain, CT. The team will attempt to take down a veritable buffet of opponents including the likes of St. Francis both of New York and Pennsylvania, C.W. Post, and the always crafty Providence.
