TEANECK, NJ - The Wagner College women's tennis team (0-2; 0-2 NEC) dropped a 4-3 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson (2-0; 1-0 NEC) yesterday, October 3.
The Green & White were paced by their No. 4, 5 and 6 players, who each captured wins. At No. 4 singles, freshman Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) won her first collegiate match 6-0, 6-3 over Tricia Small. Sophomore Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) continued the victorious trend at five singles, pasting Stacey Honore 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Sara Pancurak (Toms River, NJ / Peddie School) also won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, picking up her first Wagner victory.
At No. 1 singles, junior Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Saint Andrews's) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Julija Korsunova. Classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) dropped her match at two singles 6-1, 6-0 to Ksenia Chernyshova. Rounding out singles play, junior Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Jessica DeCarlos.
FDU captured the doubles point taking first and second doubles. The Wagner tandem of Boyd and LeCureux defeated Honore and Singh 8-1 for the Seahawks' lone doubles' win at No. 3. At first doubles, Korsunova and Small defeated Mahtani and Patel 8-4 while Chernyshova and DeCarlos were victorious over Crane and Pancurak 8-0 at second doubles.
The Seahawks are next in action when they head to scenic Lawrenceville, NJ on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to take on the Rider Broncs.
