Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Wagner Seahawks saw their season come to a close earlier today with a 3-1 loss to Monmouth on Senior Day at Wagner Stadium. With the loss the Seahawks end their campaign with a record of 2-16-0 and 2-7 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Hawks improve to 13-3-2 and 7-1-1 in the NEC and will play in the upcoming conference tournament.

Monmouth dominated the game outshooting Wagner 17-4 and scored two early first-half goals on their way to a 3-1 victory. Senior goalie Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA / Upper Darby) made six saves and withstood six Hawk corner kicks to lead an outstanding Wagner defensive effort.

Down 3-0 in the second period, senior Jenn Schweizer (Brick, NJ / Brick Memorial) blasted home a centering pass from freshman Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ / Rumson Fair-Haven) in the 85th minute for the Seahawks' lone goal of the day. With that scoring play, the two teammates also end up the year as Wagner's scoring leaders with five points apiece.

Also recording shots for the Seahawks were seniors Heather Daubert (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley), Lizzie Wood (Boca Raton, FL / St. Andrews) and junior Danielle Telleria (Orlando, FL / Winter Springs).

Monmouth tallied their first goal just over one minute into the game when BrieAnne Nomejko scored on a line-drive from 20 yards out. Andrea Lopez added to that lead in the 28th minute when she scored from 15 yards out off a centering pass from Amy Hoyer. Just like the first half, Monmouth struck quickly in the second when Lopez blasted her second goal of the game off a pass from Alessandra Detata from right in front of the net to make it 3-0, just 52 seconds into the second period.

Prior to the game Wagner's five-member senior class of Daubert, Liza Mendelewski (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge), Schweizer, Wilson and Wood were honored for their accomplishments over the last four years.

The Seahawks will return 13 letterwinners for the 2007 season.
