New Britain, CT - The Wagner College cross country squad tuned up for next weekend's NEC Championships with the CCSU Mini-Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park. The men turned in a fourth place showing while the women tallied fifth.
For the men Kyle Sultzer (Archbald, PA/Valley View) took third place individually in the 5k jaunt with a time of 15:52. Not far behind in ninth place was Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) clocking a time of 16:21. Wagner put two more runners in the top 20 with Allen Koehler at 16th place and James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) at 20th registering times of 16:34 and 16:45 respectively. Rounding out the runners for the Green & White were Andrew Keating (Riverside, RI/Mount Saint Charles) and Daniel McCartney (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian). Keating strolled into 36th place at 17:27 while McCartney took 42nd place at 18:11.
Moving over to the women they were anchored in the 3200 meter run by sophomore Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) who nailed down 8th place with a time of 11:49. Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) was within striking distance at 15th place with a time of 12:02. Senior Maris Reutzel (Meadville, PA/Meadville) was the next Seahawk finisher at 28th place stopping the proverbial watch at 12:19. Freshman Jen Wesja (Wantage, NJ/High Point) took 35th place at 12:24 while Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/Rockland) was right on her heels at 12:25. Sophomores Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) and Ryan Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) made up the rest of the Seahawk contingent this day taking 40th and 53rd with times of 12:37 and 13:22.
Next up for the Green & White is the highly anticipated Northeast Conference championship tri-hosted by Wagner, LIU, and St. Francis NY. The meet will kickoff this Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
