STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Wagner Seahawks (1-4) dropped their home opener by a 7-0 count to LaSalle (5-4) earlier today on the campus of the College of Staten Island.
Junior Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) lost a heartbreaker to Ross Flockerzie at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-7, 10-8. At second singles, freshman John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) also dropped a hard-fought match to Eric Glick by scores of 6-2, 6-7, 10-7. At No. 3, graduate student Rob Kiley (Greenlawn, NY / Hofstra) lost in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to Matt Rivera. Freshman Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) fell by a 6-0, 6-0 count to Scott Karwowski at No. 4 singles. Freshman Kevin Callaghan (E. Northport, NY / Elwood) was also blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Chris Butera at five singles. Classmate David Ahoobim (West Covina, CA / South Hills) didn't fare much better, losing 6-1, 6-1 to Phil Loatman at No. 6 singles.
The Seahawks lost all three matches at doubles. At No.1 doubles, Amster and LeBlanc lost 8-0 to Flockerzie and Christian Harvey. Serbiak and Kiley also lost 8-0 to Kurwowski and Jonathan Maula at second doubles. Rounding out doubles play, Callaghan and Ahoobim lost to Glick and Rivera at No. 3 doubles 8-0.
The Seahawks conclude their fall season when they head to Jersey City, NY on Saturday, Oct. 21 to take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks.
