Wagner Soccer Bows To Central Connecticut State, 5-0

Oct. 13, 2006

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a decision 5-0 to Central Connecticut State University (5-8-1, 2-2-1) at Wagner College Stadium in a Northeast Conference battle this afternoon. They now move to a record of (0-13-0) overall and (0-4-0) in the NEC.

From the opening bell Wagner tried to match the Blue Devils' over-aggressive, physical nature but it ultimately got the best of them only four minutes into the game when Brittany Emin would find the back of the net unassisted from 20 yards out to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.

The Seahawks, who won the battle of corners in the game besting CCSU 4-2 in that category, couldn't, however, get the offense going. They kept the Blue Devils' lead of one goal up until the 38th minute when Jessica McCavanagh got in close with Wagner sophomore goalkeeper Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite) and put a kick over her head for a score to make it 2-0 CCSU going into halftime.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, it was much the same in the second half as the Blue Devils would tack on three more goals before the final horn - all unassisted.

Four Wagner players recorded shots on goal on the afternoon.

As for the Seahawk goalkeeping, Reed started the contest but was spelled by freshman Megan Lasky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) in the second half. Reed recorded five saves allowing three goals while Lasky racked up three saves and gave up two goals.

The Seahawks stay on Staten Island for another home match this Sunday when they take on NEC opponent Quinnipiac University at Wagner College Stadium at 1 p.m.
