Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team stumbled in their second home outing of the year falling 7-0 to the Monmouth Hawks in Northeast Conference play.
Wagner lost all the matches they took part in which included three shutouts. In singles play Ben Evenden downed Steve Johnsen (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) 6-3, 6-3, while Vik Gupta outlasted Adam Amster (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle) 6-4, 6-2. Frank Castanza (Howard Beach, NY/Holy Cross) also put in a solid effort before succumbing to Chris Hart 6-3, 6-3. In another match Tim McLane knocked off Brandon Sogluizzo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) 6-1, 6-0. Additionally, Will Shuler (Springfield, MA/Central Springfield), and Mike Tutunjian (Ridge, NY/Longwood) lost in straight sets to Andrew Katz and Craig Sacchetto 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play Johnson and Amster gave Evenden and Gupta a run but eventually fell 8-4. McLane and Hart were also winners running past the team of Sogluizzo and Castanza 8-2. Finally Katz and Jay Letchko joined forces to blank the duo of Shuler and Tutunjian 8-0.
The Seahawks are next in action Thursday, September 29 against Rider starting at 3:00 pm on Staten Island.
