Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's soccer team broke their 14 game losing streak dating back to last season today with a tie versus Lafayette.
The Seahawks, now 0-6-1 were full of energy when they stepped onto the Lower Athletic Field at Wagner College this afternoon. Betty Ann Rogers (Mt. Holly, NJ / George School) led the Seahawks in their offensive attack with two shots on goal. Julianne Baranello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph Hill) and Josefine Allain (Centerville, MA / Barnstable) helped the defense to keep the Leopards scoreless for the game.
The contest was an up and down battle for both teams with the Leopards getting four more shots on goal than the Seahawks (11-7). There was an overwhelming amount of aggressiveness on the field which resulted in both teams having over 17 fouls apiece.
Freshman goalie Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL / Satellite) had a great day in goal providing Wagner with her first career shutout while collecting seven saves for the game. Lafayette's sophomore goalie Mary Kate Erdman collected five saves in goal.
The Seahawks are still looking for their first goal of the season as they return to action next week on Friday at Quinnipiac for a 3:00 pm contest.
