Bronx, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team struggled in their second outing of the year falling to the Rams of Fordham in a non-conference battle yesterday on Rose Hill, 7-0. The Green & White were victorious in just one doubles contest, losing in every other match.
Fordham started off singles play in a hurry as Mike Rosado knocked off Steve Johnsen (Staten Island,NY/Tottenville) 6-3, 6-1. Adam Amster (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle) would then fall to Mike Misiti 7-6 (4), 6-0 and from then on it was all Rams. Peter Zipf ran past Frank Castanza (Howard Beach, NY/Holy Cross) in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, Phil Bednarczyk cruised over Will Shuler (Springfield, MA/Central Springfield) 6-0, 6-0, and Peter Slucky downed Mike Tutunjian (Ridge, NY/Longwood) 6-0, 6-0. The final match was won for Fordham on a Wagner default.
In doubles play Wagner looked to hit the comeback trail when Steve Johnsen and Adam Amster defeated Ben Ehrman and Peter Sluckey 8-5. However that match was followed by Pat Tool and Sotoris Georgeiou shutting out the duo of Frank Castanza and Will Shuler 8-0. Wagner defaulted their final doubles match which gave Fordham the edge in doubles play and the point.
The Seahawks are next in action Saturday, September 24 in the Satran Tournament.
