Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped another one today against Iona at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, NY.
The first half saw Iona controlling the action on the offensive end, as Wagner rarely made a push into Gael territory. The Seahawks' defense held the Gaels to only four shots on goal as the first half remained scoreless. Wagner's freshman goalie Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL / Satellite) had four saves going into half time.
In the 67th minute, Eleri Earnshaw launched a long lob pass down the field to teammate Emily Martin, who outraced the Seahawks defense to the ball. Martin controlled the ball as she cut passed Reed to score in an open goal, giving the Gaels their first and only goal of the game.
Betty Ann Rogers (Mt. Holly, NJ / George School) led the Seahawks in shots with five during the game.
Wagner remains scoreless for the year with a record of 0-6 while Iona improved to 5-3-1 record.
