Loudonville, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis season got off to a slow start Saturday as the Green & White were downed by the Saints of Siena in non-conference action 7-0.
In singles play Siena was victorious winning all six matches in straight sets. Sarah Mayer defeated Katy Carey (Montclair, VA/University of Miami HS) 6-0, 6-0; Taylor Barvoets downed Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ/Morris Catholic) 6-2, 6-2; Denisa Hluchova won over Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) 6-0, 6-0; Karina Davis was a winner against Aarti Mahtani (Mentego Bay, JA/St. Andrews) 6-0, 6-0; Julia Lebedev was victorious over Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH/Exeter Area) 6-0, 6-0; and Meghan Slenkamp knocked off Kim Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA/Silver Lake Regional) 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action it was more of the same for Siena. The team of Mayer and Barvoets outlasted Carey and Frazza 8-4; Hluchova and Davis were big winners over Owen and Boyd 8-0; and Lebedev and Slenkamp were winners over Mahtani and Pecinovsky 8-1
The Seahawks are next in action Friday, September 23 against St. Francis (NY) starting at 3pm.
